Clutch talk

Hi everyone,

I have a 997.1 c2s and have a love / hate relationship with the gearbox. It's always been a bit rubbish at engaging 2nd or shift down into 1st when cold, or just not in the mood, which I have been led to believe is pretty common. The new quirk is the clutch peddle is starting to feel very light, although shifting is not affected. I wondered if this is an early indicator a genuine problem, does anyone else have this?

Thanks in advance! :D

Hi everyone,

I have a practically brand new genuine Porsche 997 indoor cover. It Used fitted my 997 gen 2.0

Anyone interested in making me an offer for it...let me know

Steve,

As Terry points out it's more usual for the clutch to get heavier when it wears - maybe due to a slightly different actuating fork leverage as the clutch disc material gets thinner? - so I'm not sure why yours is getting lighter. As a first step maybe you should bleed the clutch to see if that changes the feel and also helps with your gear engagement problems?

Other than synchromesh wear, a dragging clutch can lead to additional baulking when engaging gear, although it could just be that your gearshift cables need adjusting due to wear; here's a video DIY:

Thanks Jeff, Terry.

Big fan of EatSleepDrive - I'm pretty sure I'd break every clip trying to get the interior panels off but maybe worth a try.

Maybe a local Porsche Indy could do the job for you Terry, and bleed the clutch at the same time ... possibly 2-3 hours labour?
