clutch tell tale signs

patch

Dear Seasoned Hands,

Pulling up a steep ramp in first in a queue yesterday got a bit of a whiff from the back of he car - which might of course be my lousy clutch control. What in your experience are the signs of a 996 clutch beginning to feel unwell and needing a doctor (or a grave digger)...
All the best

Mine just had a new clutch as part of its engine transplant. Have to say the clutch felt remarkably lighter afterwards.

so how much is a good price for a clutch from an indi

Hi Steve - a worn clutch will feel heavy and the 'bite' point will be much higher - I recently got mine done for £550 paid a little extra (£40 IIRC) and got RMS and intermediate shaft seals done at the same time.

what area are you steve - if you are in the North West I would recommend www.sportsandclassic.com ask for mike

thx, Simon

I'd also recommend Mike as he's done a few jobs on my motor, and oddly enough, I reckon I'm in the market for a new clutch too, so it's useful to know how much this is going to cost me, and it's not as bad as I first thought...(reckoned on it being a couple hundred quid more, which I guess it would be if I went to an OPC).

That's a pretty competitive price. The JZ Machtech price for a clutch fitted is £842.95. I suspect the OPC price will be getting on for £1000.
