Clutch trouble

I have just picked my car up from the bodyshop where it has been for the past 6 weeks or so. During that time it seems the clutch has developed an issue. Driving the car home yesterday the clutch would engage but the peddle would not return all the way back on its own. Today I have checked the fluid level and it was pretty much empty, I topped it up but now the peddle goes nearly all the way to the floor with little or no resistance and I cant engage any gears and the car is undrivable.

Any ideas what the problem is and what I can do to recify it?

Hi,

You will find that either the master or slave cylinder has given up and needs replacing. I had the same problem a couple of months ago. Its not an expensive issue to fix.

Good luck

Thanks, called ADAC and they sent an AA guy very quick, his first reaction was it would probably need a new slave cylinder. He then bled the system as I had pretty much run out of fluid the previous day. Once bled its now working fine but it appears there may be a leak somewhere (nothing could be seen leaking anywhere) and he suggested I get it looked at pretty soon.

Lol there really should be a seperate section just for clutch pedal not returning. Undoubtedly the master or slave cylinder. I think this is the third one this week!!!! [:D]

Indeed , and only a few weeks ago I was posting on here that I had the same problem.

Out of the blue went to start my car and pedal straight to the floor ! . Master cyliner was gone but I had master, slave and a pipe in the middle changed to be thorough. I'm no mechanical guru but if the fluid went its going to go again for sure so don't ignore it.
