I'm assuming, from your description, that the clutch doesn't slip so I'd conclude that the problem is with disengaging rather than engaging. If this is the case ther'e a good chance that the problem could be hydraulic - either air in the system or partial failure of the clutch master cylinder or the slave. Either way it's not a big job although the slave cylinder is a bit of a pig to get to. I'm sure any competent independant specialist could sort you out fairly quickly.

Your right the clutch is not slipping at all. Clutch was replaced approx 25-30k miles ago. I've had the slave and master cylinder replaced, system bled and vacuum filled, still the same. The last attempt he lengthed push rod fron slave cylinder by 4mm. This improved slightly but he is reluctant to extend any more.
I love driving the car but this problems spoils everything especially in town.
