Clutch?

devans

New member
Got in the car this morning and the clutch didn't seem to grip. However, in addition the clutch pedal seemed to have little to no tension. It also squeaks as you depress the pedal. It has done 100k and is still the original clutch.
Would I be right in assuming the clutch needs replacing? If so, does anyone have an approx cost? Also, is this when you get the IMS seal done?
Thanks
Oh sorry, would it be wise NOT to drive it to a garage. In other words, will it just go completely and leave me stranded?

It sounds very much like the clutch has had it. You have done well for it to have lasted that long.

It is definitely worth changing the RMS and IMS seals while the clutch is being done. The parts are only a few quid, and it adds little time to the job. I can't give you an idea of cost, I'm afraid, but I would phone a couple of indies for quotes. Hopefully the flywheel won't be damaged, but you might want them to quote for that as a possible extra.

It depends how far you have to drive it, and what kind of route. If it hasn't gone to the point where you can't engage gears, then if you are gentle, and there isn't a lot of stop-start involved, I would (personally) risk it.

It could be the master cylinder and/or the selector fork. Mine (997) were changed when there was a squeaking noise when you operated the clutch pedal. I cannot give you any more info than that as it was done under warranty before my ownership. It would be worth pursuing this line of questioning with your OPC/Indy before you go down the whole clutch replacement route.

Had my clutch done before Christmas in my turbo so parts/labour may be slightly different. My costs approx £530 then labour on top again £650 ish.
Mine squeaked alot and was getting tougher to depress (i'd previously had the slave cylinder done)
Feels a lot lighter and the biting point a lot lower, you dont really noticed the change over time :)
