early types could be causing your problems, not necessarily the clutch itself
all 911 up to the G50 have to have engine and box out to change/repair clutch, but that is not such a big job as it sounds
price of parts
clutch kit £330.00
guide £40.00
fork mod £78.00
all plus vat
I had my clutch replaced by PCT in Coventry in March 2013 as the clutch had started juddering when pulling away. It was the original clutch that came out after 167000 mile
verified by the production date on the plate.
The cost to replace the clutch was just under £2000. As stated previously the clutch kit is the best part of £600.
What also put the price up was the need to fit the later clutch release fork, shaft and bearings which requires the bell housing to be machined to accept different pivot bearings.
As my clutch mechanism had never been replaced the later parts were required. The original earlier parts have not be available for years.
On examination of the displaced parts it was very apparent that the increase in clutch pedal effort I had experienced was due to the pivot shaft roller bearing having worn groves
in the shaft. The clutch plate and fork had worn noticeably but would not have let me down.
Having had the clutch change made the car feel new and fantastic. Gear changing became a pleasure carried out for fun not just necessity. It was well worth the investment.
I can recommend PCT at Coventry. I use them for all my major servicing and difficult repairs. I have no personal connection to them.
I hope you find this useful.
