CO2 emission data

Here's an interesting tale.....

I wrote to DVLA because of what seemed to be a mistake on my V5C for my 997 C2S (MY06):

"I have just received my V5C document for vehicle registration a Porsche Carrera 997 2 "S".

I believe there may be an error under section 4. The CO2 emission is given as 377 g/km, but the figure quoted by Porsche and motoring magazines is 277 g/km. Is this an error and should it be corrected?"

The reply was prompt and courteous:

"Thank you for your email.

It may be helpful if I firstly explain that the information shown on DVLA records is that which is supplied by the manufacturer when the vehicle is first registered. If you have reason to believe that the CO2 emission for your vehicle is recorded incorrectly I can only advise that you contact the manufacturer and ask that they send you a letter confirming the correct information. This can then be sent to DVLA with your vehicle registration certificate V5C in order for the record to be amended. Please send the V5C and letter to:

Vehicle Customer Services
DVLA"

I have forwarded this to OPC Sheffield and am told that it will go to Porsche UK. In the meantinme, I am inclined to send copies of official Porsche literature to DVLA and ask for a revision. Are other V5C forms wrong for our model too? One day we may be taxed on the basis of this figure!

Get looking............

Thanks Gary,

but are you being taxed on what DVLA THINKS the emission is (e.g. 377 g/km for a 997 C2S manual) or what it says in the Porsche literature (277 g/km)?

Robert

I'll check my paperwork, but as its cheaper than previous cars, I might keep quiet about it [;)]

I just checked. My V5C very clearly states 277G/KM, not 377.
It looks like they made a typo on yours and cannot be bothered to double check it. Having said that, I don't know where the DVLA get this information from; whether they transcribe it from a central data base, or whether the dealer supplies this information each time they register a car, in which case the dealer could have supplied the wrong information, or the DVLA could have transcribed it wrong.

You are right to question it though. As far as already paying emissions based tax is concerned, we haven't seen anything yet. I recon that within 5 years, cars with over 250 g/km will cost about a grand a year to tax.
