Cobalt blue

Hi folks,
on the market for a 944, S2 preferably, but very unsure as to how many colours to consider. Black, white, guards red all possible. Gold, silver, champagne, no;- but I don't remember seeing one in blue & really liking it.
Colours are very subjective obviously, but is there a majority view on whether or not Cobalt Blue suits the car?
Also, whilst it occurs Marachino Red?

one of the best colours on a s2..yes your right..and don't forget red...carl

I would agree that Cobalt Blue is a great colour - from memory Marachino red rather less so but at the end of the day its all down to personal taste. [;)]

Hi folks,

The standard advice is 'all of them'

Cars of this age will vary greatly so you should only buy on condition; forget about colour, specification, year etc. I agree that Cobalt blue is one of the nicest colours on a 944 but it is also reasonably rare so there are very few around. It's already very hard to find a good car, narrowing your choice to a specific colour will make it almost impossible or leave you with a very long hunt before you find that perfect model.

Other blues are available - this is Baltic Blue (sometimes called Dove Blue):

I'd agree with Mr Smith - there are other priorities than colour, and if you hold out for one particular colour then you could well end up waiting a long time for the right car (or end up buying a less-good example).

Personally I think there are very few colours that S2s came in that aren't really nice, so I wasn't really very concerend with that when I was looking.

However, I really can't stomach some of the interior colours, or perhaps more accurately the patterns, so I was very much on the look out for Porsche logo or leather, rather than the pinstripe or pascha varities.

But as I'm sure you can imagine it'll be far cheaper to change the seats and door cards than it will be to undo years worth of neglect.

hiya craig, great colour choice and quite rare, hope you really enjoy whilst the weather is so good, always had a soft spot for mars/cherry also was there a copenhagen blue? sll the best jason p

You probably mean Studio Check, as opposed to Pasha, which withered away in about 1981/1982.....

Sorry James, I meant to say "brown" pinstripe. I agree, in a white car the blue pinstripe looks nice. Didn't get that post terribly accurate did I?

Meanwhile a big sorry to all those with studio check and brown pinstripe - it's a marmite thing I think.

Blue pinstripe was a bit ... in your face. I looked at a Baltic Blue car with blue pinstripe and didn't buy it, but that wasn't on the basis of the interior (more that the vendor was well north of dodgy!)

My car originally had the linen pinstripe interior and it was fine.

Hmm, now I'm not sure if it is cobalt blue - might be Baltic? I need to decode the paint code somewhere.

Had a good 160 mile drive home though - the car didn't miss a beat in running, but after a quick pee stop at the motorway services, I switched the ignition on and the temperature gauge pinged straight up to maximum, and stayed there. Even with the ignition off. I think there was a another thread I saw somewhere explaining the problem - off hunting for it now...

I think that the same colour is called Dove Blue on come cars and Baltic Blue on others. Dove on the 944 and Baltic on the 911 series sounds about right. Never understood why.

It was another chap on here who takes the credit - not me. He had an immaculate Dove Blue S2, and sold it. I can't remember his name, and don't know what happened to him. Others will remember the chap I'm talking about ... he turned up to the Silverstone Rollers of Truth about 18 months ago. Nice fellow.
