Coding help required - Sussex/Surrey

Hi,

I had a PSE fitted to my 997.2 last year by an OPC.

They had to code the parts in, but had messed this up over several attempts, issues such as deleting sports chrono settings, deleting radio/nav info on rev counter and most recently the issue is now that the car comes up with a rain sensor fault when started up (no rain sensor fitted) and also that whilst the cruise control works, the green light doesn’t show up on dials when activated.

I’ve given up with trying to get them to fix this (it’s a 45min drive x2 every visit).

Do any forum members in Sussex or Surrey have the ability to correct this programming for me? The main issue being to remove them having made the car think it’s got auto wipers, but getting the green light for cruise back would be a bonus.

Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam,

That’s totally unacceptable from your OPC, especially when you consider that they’re charging upwards of £200/hr for labour and that - supposedly - they’re the "Porsche experts”.

I agree with Geoff’s suggestion if you’re unable to get satisfaction from your OPC.

Hi Sam,

Sorry to hear about your conundrom. I have to agree with Jeff and Geoff - it's entirely unacceptable that you were charged by the original dealership for work which, by the sounds of it, can be described as 'flakey' at best.

If I was in your position, I would approach the original dealership first and ask them to rectify the remaining issues at no cost if you've already been charged for that work anyway. I get what you say about losing faith and travel distance, but would still not let them off the hook so easily. I'd further argue that if they had had doubts whether they would be able to do the requested work to a good standard, they should have told you so immediately and perhaps should have even rejected your requests - it's no good to embark you on a journey of 'let's see what we can do for you' and then leave you in a limbo with the aftermath of their 'craftmanship'. If they had promised to, or had given you the impression that they could fulfil your requests but then failed to do so and did charge you anyway, I'd say you are due a full refund of what you have paid for that work, as the promised outcome could not be achieved by the dealership or garage throug none of your fault. You can then take your money to a different garage (perhaps others on the forum may be able to help with recommendations as I only have (albeit very good) experience with Lee at Cotswold Porsche) and let them do the work, hopefully to a much better standard.

I would also steer clear of touching any settings (I do have a full Durametric which I have bene using on my 997, and know things can go wrong with reprogramming as I had to experience myself when getting my LED head/tail/fog/side indicator lights wrong, which took me 3 weeks of research and a LOT of head- and heart ache to correct) until you have perhaps argued your case with the original dealership and have come to an agreement that suits you, as they may otherwise lay blame on you 'tinkering' with the programming and refusing you any furhter help or compensation.

Anyway, whatever you decide to do - I wish you good luck with it!
