Coffee in Coolant tank

Noticed that the water in my coolant tank is a light brown latte coffee colour and rather slippy. Clearly oil has found its way in to the system. but there is no trace in the dipstick and no gunge on the oil filler cap. no smoking and Car runs well ( famous last words) and sits at just over 80 on the temperature gauge. Car serviced only 300 miles ago.
Ideas any body?

Internal oil cooler leak or impending strip-down. Either way you need to get it sorted sooner rather than later.
The oil will make its way all round the cooling system and into rads, heater core etc.
Not a particularly efficient way of running the system !!

you didn't mention which model - i think some of the later AOS's may have coolant running through them so could also be this failed.

Well the water doesn't run through the AOS on them to my knowledge, so limits choices to things such as oil cooler, cylinder head gasket, mechanical failure - lets hope for the oil cooler !!

this evenings task, dropped a cup full of oil from the sump, looks clear and uncontaminated. Then to remove the oil cooler, access was much easier than expected. 35 mins from lifting the lid to removing the cooler. 4nr 5mm Allen bolts.Oil side of the unit is nice and clean, waterside presented with quite a bit of surface scale with some evidence of leakage and very hard and brittle washers. So new set of washers and cooler due on Wednesday. Fingers crossed.

If its only a tea spoon Porsche OPC at Woverhampton said ITS NORMAL You can stick your finger in and scoop it out (Maybe worthe waiting till it cools down!!!!!!) It tends to find the highest point (The Water Tank)
Clear the oil in the water cap with Fairy Liquid and wash well

Its called mayonnaise (Helmans!!)
