coffin arms

Hi all. Am guessing this thread may have already been discussed so apologies for going over old ground. Have a C4S with worn front coffin arms/wishbones as confirmed by a local indy. Am going to do the work myself but would appreciate any advice regarding replacement. Yes I know I should fit Porsche only parts but am put off by ridiculous price and have found a complete kit from design 911 who I have used many times before with no problems, price £299 plus Vat etc. Will of course get a full geometry check after work is done. Comments please or other alternatives. Simon

Hi Simon
I need to do all four of my coffin arms and the top mounts, I am in Oxford and contacted a couple of well known local independent's and they both said Meyle are good so Ive gone with them and Porsche top mounts. I was going to do this over the winter, if you start before me id be interested to see how you get on along with some pictures and tips if you don't mind.
All the best
Andy

Thanks Andy,it's good to hear that about the Meyle parts. With Design 911's reputation on the line I doubt they'd sell substandard parts. Will be doing the work sometime over the next few weeks and of course will be more than happy to take pictures and share tips. The handling has been very unpredictable around country lanes with a slight knocking noise at slow speeds over bumps. Top mounts were done a year ago so I know they're OK. Looking forward to seeing what a difference the work will make. Simon

I'd recommend the Porsche genuine pattern recon parts from Hartech - £75 an arm on a service exchange basis as I recall; I had them fitted just by a local garage, very simple apparently, cost around 50 a corner for fitting.

I have heard from 2 other indy sources that the Meyle quality is fine but you need a full geometry reset-up(!) after fitting as they are a slightly different dimension - anecdotal perhaps, but I'm inclined to trust the sources where I heard it.

Well worth doing!

Good luck!

I had the Meyle parts fitted and they were great quality but, as already mentioned, full geometry was needed, which wasn't cheap. I was not aware of the solution mentioned by Juliusf above or I may have also gone this way. Great shout.

Local Indy to me found that in some cases the dimensional difference was too great to get the geometry back in spec and has stopped using them.

Surely the dimensions aren't different at all. I'll know soon enough as I've ordered them and plan to fit next week. Will report back with some pics if I can manage to upload on to here. Good with the spanners, not so good with computers.
