COLD START HESITANCY

GOOFY

By now you are probably aware I'm new to the Porsche scene with all these questions flying around from me ! Many thanks for the advice I received on lubrication service and annual inspection. As I stated my 98 Boxter has 19000 miles on the clock with last service 18mths ago (14k miles) and on advice I will have the oil changed and the annual inspection. However as far as I'm aware the brake fluid has never been changed and this will probably need to be done I suspect ?

At this point I would have considered the spark plugs and air cleaner. I say this because without fail every year I used to change the plugs and air filter on my previous V6 Golf and never suffered any misfire, hesitancy etc. I also think I may need to because on cold morning starts the engine falters (huge flat spot) as I accelerate just off idle. This usually lasts for about a minute after starting. It is akin to putting a manual choke in as you accelerate - huge hesitancy requiring de-clutching and increase revs . From my experience having owned GTI's, this usually meant poor fuel enrichment valves or poor ignition spark plugs - or VWbeetles icing of the carb manifold ! I don't think with the superior electronic mgmt this would occur on the Boxter hence my conclusion for a spark plug and air filter change. I also am sure I detect a slight mid range flat spot even when warm.

Regards

Silver Boxter 2.5 - and loving it !!![:D]

With 19,000 miles on 7 years the poor thing has hardly been used and is probably feeling arthritic and wheezy from lack of exercise. These cars were built to be driven so best of luck with your Porsche ownership and put some miles on it - the more miles the more fun!
