I've just spotted a few small oil marks on my driveway and took the car to my mechanic who says it looks like one of the oil return tubes has started to leak. I've booked it in to get this replaced with one of the collapsible oil tubes as he said the work involved to replace it with a proper one would be substantial. I'll probably get both tubes done as they're only £8 each from Berlyn Services and I might as well do both once he's taken the exhaust off. I'll leave the other side as they are dry and it would mean taking that side of the exhaust off as well.
Anyway, I'm going to the Nurburgring on Saturday and wanted to know if you guys think it's okay to thrash the car around in this state. My mechanic says that these tubes don't hold any pressure and simply transfer any oil left in the heads down to the sump via gravity. He can't guarantee it won't fail, but says it looks like it has only just started and doesn't think it will fail catastrophically. I'll check it regularly and keep a very close eye on the oil level and pressure.[]
The car has been faultless for over two years, and the first time I want to really push her, she starts playing up! Typical...![]
