Hi all,

Said goodbye to my beloved 996 of 10 years and collected my new baby, C2 3.8s in Seal Grey with lots of goodies... Looking forward to joining in on the this forum...

:)

Couple of questions to kick off if I may...

There is a reasonable knocking from somewhere on the front suspension at low speeds and bumps, naturally I will get this looked at this week but is this a common problem? 82,000 miles btw and in excellent condition.

I noticed I could move the rear roll bar (I think that's what it is, cross the bottom of the car and goes up towards the top of the wheel) by hand a little and create a small knock but cant hear in when driving.

Also, no Bluetooth - any suggestions on make / model / installer in east London (I have a Nokia Windows Phone 8)? I had a Parrot from Halfords previously and they fitted it surprisingly well :)

One last thing, no handbook. They seem very expensive on eBay - best place to buy one? I have been able to download a US PDF, can I get a UK version anywhere?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Rob Suggest you contact Chris Franklin of Centre of Gravity. He is a wizard on suspension. Transformed my recently departed 997 even though at the time it had only done about 6000 miles when Chris worked on it. Worth every penny that it cost. I understand that many OPCs go to him with suspension/tracking issues.

FYI- Chris is closed until 3rd Sept as all on annual leave.

Congratulations on your new car purchase. Trust you are enjoying it. [:)] As regards your questions. The knocking is likely to be worn drop link joints - common with the mileage you have and not too expensive to replace. Get Chris Franklin to check the top mounts too. [;)] There's quite a bit of technical data on PCM upgrades and modifications, but you need to access the Members' Only technical sections of the forum - and for this you need to join PCGB. PM me if you'd like an application form and I will email one to you. Owner's manual - have you tired your local Porsche Centre? [8|] Regards, Clive.

Hi Jonathan, Totally agree Chris is a suspension God, he worked on my 996 a few times. Will probably get my local to look at it in the interim and speak to Chris on his return. Thanks for the advice. Rob

Hi Clive, Thanks for the intel, already a member thanks and have come across some useful info so far. A couple of alternatives to a Parrot such at Dennison (sacrificing the multiplayer cd) or mObridge but they seem geared for an iPod. I aso fear fitting a Parrot may invalidate a Porsche warranty. Will investigate. Re manual, will check OPC of course. In fact, I emailed them last night requesting a list of books that should have been supplied along with part numbers and cost. I expect £££ of course. Have downloaded a US manual which s very useful, but would like a UK version if possible. Will do a search for things like tyre pressures etc. unless anyone can tell me off and now. Thanks in advance. Rob

I would take it back to where I purchased it before laying out any £'s..... Could at least be a negotiation there for shared costs to get it put right!! Obviously not an option if it were a private sale tho' Good Luck & enjoy

Hi Paul, Good point. Bought it from a home trader, noticed the issues at the time and negotiated £400 off which I hope should cover most or all of the work, maybe excluding Chris's work which I factored in already. Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob, Congrats on you purchase.[:)] I have changed your status to "PCGB Member" so that you won't get hounded to join the club in future!![:D]

Hi rob Congratulations I had many great miles in my 997C2 S manual and I'm sure you will too.- does it have sports exhaust - sounds great in the Gen 1 IMO. See you've had a good few Porsches- for tyre pressures I ran 34 front 37 rear on 19 inch rims - that's as low as I would go and work up from there Tony

Hi Tony, Thanks for the info, I will try them. I used to run 43 and 36 on the 996 which I did find a little harsh on uneven roads. That combined with 18" wheels and M030 sports suspension. Does anyone know where I can download a uk manual from? Thanks, Rob
