Knew I was buying this car two weeks ago and as the day approaches my hours of sleep each night reduces! Had a pre purchase inspection done and it looks to be a very good car. It has been 4 years since i sold my Lotus Evora S SR so very excited to get back into a nice sports car.

All ready got plans for the weekend:
- Plasti dip the boot badges grey.
- Add the charging cable for c-tek.
- Fit some rubber strips to the rear wheel arches to protect against stone chips.
- Fit 'porsche' side decals.
- Fit pre cut PPF for side rear 3 1/4/ panel and lower sills.
- Full paint correction and ceramic coating.

For the future:
- Fit GTS ducktail spoiler.
- Possibly remap the car.
- Possibly fit the GTS rear lights.

I have signed up to the club and look forward to meeting some of you at some stage, going on a few track days and enjoying the car.

Welcome from me as well Stu. A great Christmas present to yourself and it sounds as though you’ve got a busy weekend coming up … but don’t forget to get out and drive it! 😀

It’ll be interesting to hear your comments on the Cayman compared with the Lotus.

You may need to contact Admin to get your status changed from Guest to PCGB Member on the forum and it would be useful if you could edit your My Profile to indicate your rough location and Club Region.

Welcome Stu

Manual / PDK ?

Thank you. I opted for pdk. I plan on doing some road trips for the PDK fits the bill a bit more for me. The failures do concern me a tad. The car is not under warranty and was only just serviced by an Indy. Porsche stated to have a warranty applied they would want to service the car and do 111 point check. By the time that’s done it’s 2k ish.

I am aware of the other issues (possible steering rack failure, dynamic engine mounts etc) but ok worn those by comparison.

I have added my location detail so it should be showing. Hopefully my membership status will update.

My lotus was also a 2013 so yes it will be an interesting comparison.

I’m not sure how common steering rack failure is Stu (I don’t recall mention of it on this forum) but there have been a number of reports of dynamic engine mounts failing on 981s and 718s. Just luck of the draw, as is PDK reliability, but at least you’re aware of possible pitfalls with ownership.

Jeff

Indeed, the only scary one is the PDK. I am surprised from my research that no indies can work on them/rebuild them.

Yes Stu. Although I’m sure that ZF could supply PDK parts Porsche won’t allow them to do it, so the only option is a full replacement unit at around a whopping £12k plus fitting I believe. 😲 You’d have thought that the clutch pack at least would be a replacement item but all the dealers can do is update the software and replace any minor external components.

I reckon that’s the reason why many owners take on the Extended Warranty.

Jeff

Welcom Stu.

I do not expect you to have problems, but independents are starting to find solutions to PDK issues. The biggest obstacle is the investment required to manufacture alternatives to Porsche supplied parts as Jeff mentioned above. I investigated new clutch packs when my PDK started to slip and Kits are available from the US https://www.dodsonmotorsport.com/dmspdkupgrade but I could not be sure that they could be successfully fitted in UK, given the need for the box to be resynchronised with the control unit and other unobtainium parts would possibly be required. At the time, I was reluctant to take the chance on spending a large amount on something with an uncertain outcome.

But that's all theory - you should be able to just collect your car and enjoy it. Happy Christmas!
