VIN is a 17 character identification number which replaced chassis numbers with a common format in 1980. The paint code can be found on the sticker between the back lamps inside the boot, or on page three of your service book. The picture isn't particularly clear - what colour would you call your car?

Yep, paint code is nothing to do with the VIN. If you have lost both the sticker in the boot, and the original documents and service book, a call to a Porsche Centre and they should be able to tell you. Have you looked at the 944 colours faq? Might be able to get an idea from there.

Likely to be: LY5V/L5 - Sapphire Metallic or LY7Y - Zermatt Silver Metallic or (less likely) LY7U/U8 - Stone Gray Metallic You really need that paint code from the car to be sure.

Thanks folks The car is over at Porsche Nine Engineering getting a 'health check' before I start chucking £ at it. So I will have to look for the sticker when I pick it up. Looking at a colour chart found on net its either Pastel Beige or Kalahri Metallic. It does appear to be a metallic finish so could be the later. Sorry the picture I posted wasn't the best Ta Andy
