colour coding spoiler?

xenon

I have had my 944 S2 for nearly a week now and I'm totally smitten, feels so much better than the '02 325i I had, which was no slouch. Anyway, my wife is not as smitten as I am and one of the reasons she cites is the rubber spoiler on the back which is, apparently, "cheap and old-fashioned looking" [8|]. I suggested it might be easier on the eye if it were body coloured as it would blend in - an idea she has embraced.

So, is it possible? I know modern acrylic paints can be very flexible and painting flexible and plastic parts is not the horror it was back in the days of cellulose paint. Anybody know / tried it / got an opinion?

Car is metallic grey (Titan).

Personally I think it would be likely to flake off as the rubber is very flexible, and I also think it would look awful; like an 80's Kamei or RGA "body kit".

If you really don't like it then spend a few hundred on a hatch with a later bridge spoiler and paint that body colour if you feel the need would be my advice.

Kamei, now that's a name I haven't seen for a looooonnnngggg time. I almost got caught up in the Australian agency of that brand a million years ago.
Anyway I agree with Fen. In fact I bought a hoop spoiler from a guy in the UK to put on my lexan rear hatch and had it sprayed same as car colour. Looks great!! I'll see if I can find the ebay link for you. It was pretty cheap from memory.
EDIT: I can't post the link but if you go to your local Ebay site and search for Delta Styling or seller
Stuart 2086, you should find it. It cost 120 squids.
Picture not the best but you get the idea.

She thinks the bridge spoiler is worse [&:]. The upshot is that all spoilers are a bit Kamei or RGA, and would look much nicer with nothing at all.

Get an early 924 hatch with no spoiler then, but TBH if it was me I'd mark her down as not knowing what she's talking about and move forward on that basis if she thinks a painted rubber spoiler would look "newer" than a bridge.

Patrick - I have a genuine bridge spoiler from my car (as it has the 3 piece one on it now) that I only want £100 for, including pattern side trims. Bugger.

Chuck it out the widow as you fly over on your way to NZ.[:D] This is only going on the race hatch so I don't need anything too original. This one has turned out very well anyway and is very light. I must measure the difference in weight to the original glass and rubber hatch. At the very least half as light. Now all I need is a really good c/f bonnet.
Oh, and there's a guy on Rennlist who doesn't have a rear spoiler at all. It may in fact be a 924 hatch. It actually looks really good but I asked what it's like at speed and he said it does feel a little light. Not what I'd want. Tell the wife that it's a safety issue and get a big Le Mans spoiler. Hahaha.

Now that's the kind of advice I was after! I just let her drive it for the first time and now she's smitten too! [:)]

Sorry but I can only upload one picture per post. Oh, and it comes with all the mounts too.

I have a nasty feeling that it says "RS Turbo" on the back of that car.

:shudder:

Please tell me I am wrong.

Oli.

No it's probably "Turbot" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Haha. It may as well say 'Tinned Tuna' at the moment for all the time it's spending gathering dust. Finally decided to go back to some JE pistons that are on the plane as we speak. Hope to have them installed in the next 2 weeks to finally make it back on the road yet again this year. It does say 'RS turbo' and they are both Porsche badges, but it is really just a bit of novelty. Hopefully the expected 500 stonking horses aren't!![:D][:D][:D]
