Can anyone tell me the correct name and code for the rather rare 968's found in a "pencil crayon" purple/violet/lilac, usually around 1994 registration? Hopefully an example picture of one such 968 should be below..were they special order?

Chris - that's what I suspected too ....but .... the picture below shows what is officially described as an Amethyst coloured car and you can see the difference. The 968 is a more basic purple shade without special effects.... Thanks anyway!

I've done some more digging and think it's almost certainly called Amaranth violet and the paint code is 39D. It was a standard porsche colour from 1989-1994
The colour charts list two codes for Amethyst (both pearl effect) one is 38A and the other is 87K or 83K. The colour coded 87K is water based.
Alternatively there is also a colour called violet blue metallic (37E) or straight Violet metallic (39G) could this be the colour that 964 is?

That 964 is definatly amathyst.. cant see all of the reg but i think I know that particular car.

Have you tried asking on the 968 forum? www.968uk.co.uk or wait till Stu turns up!

Thanks all for your investigation.work everyone. It looks like the Amaranth 39D is the answer .....just got to find a good 968 for sale in this colour now[&:].

My pictures above and below are from an Autotrader advert - anyone recognise the car, M419 FUM, and know it's owner describing the car as: Manual, 78,000 miles, (M reg), Purple, FSH, Tax and MoT. Black sports interior, 17in alloys, same chassis tweaks as club sport, tracker.

There was a 968 CS for sale in that colour a few months back, it was a one off special order car.(may be worth going through some back issues of 911&PW as I think that was where it was advertised. It
is a great colour, good luck with the search.
