Colour of centre console lights

The lower band of lights that indicate which switch is which at night were not working on my car, so I order new ones. But I should have done some fiddling first, because it was just a loose connection. At 38 quid they will be going back!

Anyway, I now realise that the two bands of lights are different colours on my car (orange on top, green for bottom layer). This looks wrong. I know I'm getting too anal about this, but are they supposed to be the same colour? In which case which is correct? The color seems to be in the plastic moulding, not the LEDs

Whenever a post like this appears I expect half the 993 owners start wondering, then doubt raises its head and they rush out to look at their cars.[:D]

I have just done that and find that the top row is orange/red and the bottom row doesn't work, but looks as though it may be green. Best check the connections before I rush out an buy bulbs.

They are correct as shown in the OP's original photo
I found that one of the pea bulbs had expired so I carefully swapped it for a micro led... much too bright and then by the time I had swapped out the other two the pcb was shot.
I recall the replacement board was about £25 .....
Must have put the prices up so that they could buy all those VAG shares on the quiet!.

The left LED on the lower row (sunroof) blew some time ago. It really bugs me every time I look at it - even though I try to ignore it.

Something about those lights makes them hard to ignore .... guess I'll just have to fix it someday.

Thanks Mark. How right you are Michael. Just checked my car and found two lights out on the upper group. Just goes to show I seldom go out in the dark. Another little task to keep me amused.

Looking at your pic, and not having rushed out to my car, I'd say the top row (being hazard/immediate warning related) would logically be RED (or 'orange-y' because of the thin lens[;)])......Bottom logically GREEN (being not really life threatening [:D]sunroof, rear wiper and rear spoiler). Shouldn't lose any sleep over them - though always nice to see them working properly at night[:)].

For information, if you go to Maplin they can supply a clear LED and a suitable RESISTOR to alloy LEDs to replace the original bulbs without being too bright. The cost for three would work out at not much more than a fiver. A simple soldering job on the original printed circuit board and you're done. Martin
