Colour paint dots on springs what do they mean?...

I've just taken my suspension off to change the springs and have noticed the one's I have taken off each have a green paint dot near the top of the spring and and blue one and yellow one near the bottom of the spring.
Does anyone know what these marks mean?
Reason I ask is because the new springs seem to make the car sit higher and I was looking for lower :-( but the new ones feel much firmer.
Any idea's?

You don't say what model and year your car is, but the blue/yellow dot springs appear to be the standard springs for a 2.5 or 2.7 986 manual transmission.

Porsche code all their springs with paint dots, so they can be identified. If the springs you fitted don't have dots I assume they are aftermarket.

Where can I find a list of what dots mean what as I also have pink dots on my struts at the rear aswell as the differant dots on each spring ?

I believe the green dots refer to RoW Sport (ie not USA)which sit 10mm lower front and back.
Do you have option M030 listed on your VIL sticker? (found under your bonnet and in your service book)
If so you have the Sports suspension option (stiffer springs, shocks and anti-roll bars)

You can download a copy of the PET Parts Catalogue from here: http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/porscheservice/originalparts/originalpartscatalogue/

The catalogue shows the part numbers and colour dots for each model and option. The 'model' column shows the options. As Rod says, M030 is the sports suspension, M008 is 3.2, M480 is 6-speed, etc.
