Coloured Wheel Crest centres

Guest

My Boxster S has had 2 of its wheel crests stolen. I've got a price from my local OPC for a pack of 4 but this is not my question. There are two holes in the crest badges which match up with two holes in the centre of the wheel.

Anyone heard of a way to secure the wheel crests to make life more difficult for toerags who want to steal them ?
If this query has been posted before, I apologise but I couldn't find other posts on this topic.

Thanks

Thats what I've been thinking too. Missing crests are on the nearside front and the other on the off-side rear. Also there is no evidence of force to get the badges off. I was delaying buying the the replacement crests but if this is going to be a regular occurance then maybe I'd invest in a replacement set.

BTW, any ideas on why the holes are in the crests ? Is it for wheel performance or is there a more mundane reason ?

It's so you can use a tool to remove them - without taking the wheel off and pushing from the back.

Do you mean so it's easier for the toerags to nick them :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: and increase the sales of Porsche parts []

I recently replaced mine. The coloured ones I had on did not have any holes, they were past their best so didn't mind drilling my own holes and was surprised how easily they did pop out. This worried me as the new ones do have holes and since I had two of my 'theft proof' Club dust caps nicked!
Since the holes are in the black of the crest, maybe the solution is to fill holes and stick a drop of paint on it. Oppotunists would be fooled and once they are on they're on. How many times have you had the need to remove them. You could always poke the filler back out as you'll know vaguely where they holes are.

I bought a set for my 996 last month, from Lovetts.

However, I suspect that there may be a 'quality control' problem. Last week two shields fell off (fortunately found on my garage floor). Clearly there was cost cutting with the adhesive! Now I notice that a third one has dropped off - but nowhere to be found.

Presumably these are covered under a parts warranty?

What sort were they? I know you can get stick on ones, which I would avoid.
Was it a metal sheild like my old ones, see pic. The shield has three studs retaining it.
The new ones are engraved (or cast?) in.

The latest Porsche ones, which retail at £120 for 4, are an enamelled coloured shield stucck onto a silver, plastic centre cap.

£120 - my first car cost less than that!

This might sound silly, but you can get the standard black/white ones and paint them - this means there's nothing to fall off - I did this (cos I was bored one weekend) and the results were pretty good. See pic attached.
