Common relay failure

Please could someone explain reference having to carry spare relay - common failure.
What's the problem - what relay - where is relay located ?.

John,

I suspect this is probably a reference to the DME relay - I forget exactly what it does but is related to the fuel/ignition and without it the car goes nowhere. I bought one soon after getting my car and it lives in the spare wheel well just in case.
 
Make sure the spare has a 993 part number and not 944 - there were a load of duff relays sold on Ebay I recall!
 
Yip....DME fuel relay.....always have one in the glove box!!!

Twice I have been saved.......and onced saved someone else at the roadside.....

!!!
