Concours

I may have the wrong take on this but it seems to me that concours penalizes you for actually driving your car! ie. the more you drive it of course the more stone chips and dirtier in the hard to reach places it's going to get. So the only people who win are those that drive their car straight from the factory to the concours show. Then there's those of us who have modified, "nil point".

Alex, but from what I understand Street concours would cover you exactly and would give you a very good chance. Its certainly where I would put mine. There were some people that did want to display properly, but just read the East Midlands forum Concours to see how upset they got when a brand new 997 won.. I think there could be a place for both. I even have the club sticker in the correct place, I'd try make sure there would be bonus points for the register sticker too [;)] garyw

We've got the Region 15 Concours on the 7th June and I haven't entered for the above reason! Not that mine would win but my feeling is that it might be aimed at cars a little older than mine?

To try and cater for all walks of life within the register and due to some whispering of wanting one [&:]
We feel its our duty to cover all ends of the spectrum of interests in the 997 (I'm in the dirty car end by the way [;)])

So, Would anybody be interested in a Register Concours?
Whether it would be the full on or street version would have to be decided, but if there is the interest we may well look at organising one alongside one of the club events.

However if there is no interest then two things will happen, I can cancel my valeter and we can concentrate on other items. [:)]

Please post your thoughts below, that's concours thoughts and not general 'is Tesco cheaper than Asda' type thoughts!!

Nah, I have too many stone chips on my bonnet and windscreen along with a little bit of a scraped lower front lip to bother entering any kind of Concours. Even my beautiful HRE wheels have a little scratching on the bolt holes where they have been taken on and off so much during my suspension mods. I personally like having a non-pristine car as it makes me generally less paranoid about damaging it. If I was more obsessive then I certainly would drive the car less and when I did take a lot less enjoyment from doing so. Regular cleaning the car after a long drive, and even cleaning the leather interior the other day with my Porsche kit is always very enjoyable but I certainly wouldn't want to take that more seriously. Simon mentioned to me the other day that he spent like Ă‚ÂŁ600 on his recent professional valet. That to me is money better spent on other goodies [:D]

I felt the same way when mine was new (Gary may remember I declined to enter mine at the 2006 R9 event hosted by Paul when it had just 500 miles on the clock) and now that it's not so new I'm not sure that I want my attention drawn to those stone chips that I have learned to avoid looking at.

Or do you get deducted points for any non-Porsche parts fitted?

I would guess Porsche GB turns up and starts taking notes!!!
What, on how to improve their cars?? and listen to their customers... [;)] Guys, I'm thinking more along the lines of two catagories... 1) Concours, proper concours with a judge, club rules etc... 2) The car people would most like to take home/presented nicely- judged by the attendees There could even be a number 3 of whom got the dirtiest on the drive out [;)] I love the drives out; Alex and Allan - in no uncertain terms I do think I win on the scrapes and stone chips (catagory 4 then [;)]) But I do want to listen to the whole membership and people not feel we aren't catering for them.. whether this is concours I don't know after the failure of the Boxster and Cayman registers to get the numbers together.. It just something that crossed my mind whist at Gaydon the other week, in torrential rain there was still people cleaning and mopping their cars- and enjoying it. garyw

No, on which cars to rule out warranties on. That seems to be where each OPC allocates most of it's resources to these days given all reports [&:] I only thing I like about the idea is parking your car next to a load of other 997s, wandering around, and having a general chit-chat with all the owners. With regards to the drive out, I vote for Basildon Park (yearly R19 concours held there) as the location ie. 5 mins drive from my house so I don't have to re-clean everything again once arriving! Saying that, even to Basildon Park in the summer months I would still get the whole front end bug splattered given my fondness of using my right foot when driving.

Gary I think its a good idea and does cater for those who keep their 997's in pristine condition. However I have to admit that, personally its not my cup of tea, coffee or Whiskey either. Also with the level of unwanted attention my car gets (every time I fix the deliberate damage some ***d adds a bump or scratch), it would not be suitable, especially with the mods. I've just realized everyone who replied is not volunteering to take part. So if any one out there would be interested speak up now to make sure that Gary has the support to organize something for you[:)]

I even have the club sticker in the correct place
You can't be serious!!! Exactly where must this go! As I think everyone else has already indicated, not my cup o' tea at all. Why? Surely there are enough Regional concours events for the [keen] polishers to attend. Me, I'm not precious about the car; sure I'd like the stone chips to go away and I do like the look when clean and polished - that's about it. Bit like track days, there'l aleays be slower and faster cars - but you don't get a prize for being the fastest I'll be mainly DRIVING my Porshe this week. See all who are booked on the Reading drive on Sunday the 7th

happylarry, calm down its only a sticker [;)] I'll give you one when I see you on Sunday Like you I will be mainly driving me car this week. However I have repeated that I have asked the question incase there is anyone interested in such an event, we do have a broad church here.. From the replies there seems little interest but no one can complain that we as a club register have not asked. [:)] garyw

I am in the camp that says these guys have the CCC disorder. (Compulsive car cleaning). I am with you Gary at the enjoy driving and get dirty end of the spectrum. Do you think I would win with this entry?

Note the guys in front of me are cleaning their wheels!!!

You'd get my vote Bob [:D] Maybe we should go the other way and vote for the dirtiest car [;)] ( now scanning my images for a filthy one!!) garyw

Oh dear I don't think I can win that one either - this is the best (worst?) I can manage after 2000 miles of French, Swiss, German and Dutch roads:

one of the advantages of silver over black/atlas(in my experience[:D])is that they are very hard to get REALLY dirty!!!!!!
