Condensation in oil filler pipe

Hi guys, this is my first post, and also my first 911.
Awsome car, worth every penny, and the wife is just about talking to me again.
I have a question.
My 2000 (3.4) 996 carrera4 is due an anual service, has only coverd 3,000 miles in the lsast year so the oil should still be ok, still looks clean, so would be loathed to change it

Also the service schedule stated 20,000 / 2 years between oil services, which stikes me as a bit high.

I seem to get some condensation forming in the oil filler pipe, just wondered weather this was common.

Or should I change the oil PDQ.

Cheers.

Hi blarge, the condensation in the filler pipe is probably just lack of use I actually had a thick creamy sludge in mine when I bought it caused by the same thing, it soon clears though with a little use. With regard to changing the oil I can see your point but the oil is the cars life blood, I always think that better safe than sorry I change the oil on my cars every six months regardless of mileage, I do wonder with enginering on new engines today so high wether the manufactureres recommendations of 20,000 miles in between services is to make sure we wear these cars out?

Ant.

Hi, i get it in my 944cab quite regularly as i don't take her out that much and it's usually short distances so the condensation doesn't get chance to burn off fully.
I agree with 968ant regular oil and filter changes is best, after all water isn't a good idea in the oil - i had 3 done last year and i'm going to get another done when she goes in for mot this month.
I was really worried that my head gasket was on it's last legs but a lot of the other chaps have assured me it's quite normal especially with all the cold weather we've been having.
cabby.

Thanks for the info guy's.

As I thourght just condensation, but I think I will get an anual service done, and oil change at an indipendant.
My nearest is Camtune in Godalming, any opinions on them ?
