Condensation problem

Hi Paul,

I'm sorry to trouble you so early into my membership of the club, but I was hoping you could help me out with something that's bugging me on my 924. Condensation - I can't get rid of it. Nothing is coming in through the doors, all the seals appear tight, carpets are dry (well they are after a run and before the next lot of condensation starts!) and the car's under a breathable cover, yet every time I want to go out in it (regardless of eh ambient temperature) there's a small lake on the rear luggage cover and the windows (especially the rear one) need squeegee-ing off before they can even be dried.

Is this just a design fault in your experience, or do you know anything that could possibly cause it?

Hmm! Not much help, but I have am otherwise 'dry' '87 924S, but I noted over the very cold weather of the last week or so that I too have had condensation inside my Instrument dials. Not had that before. On at least one other morning I was also aware of the dreaded damp inside, so I'm interested as well.
I also have *damp* inside my lower driving lights. I think someone else described a method of dealing with that using silicone caulk, not sure. I was planning to have a look through the FAQ's once the weather warmed up to a stage where I can actually work outside again without losing the feeling in my hands!

But yes I'd be interested in comments as well.

The lake on the luggage cover is from the rear window wiper. Mine leaks from the throught the rubber seal down the spindle and into the motor box which slowly drips onto the luggage cover and collects in the middle of it. I used silicone sealer on the inside of the motor box all around the e spindle area and a little bit around the outside. OR could be the boot seal! If it's the original one, it would of got sqaushed at the top over the years and not creating a good seal.
Silly question but is your air circulation open? So fresh air comes into the cabin rather than re circulating it.

Just to trough this off topic alittle Im thinking of removing the rear window wiper, never use it anyway, can you, or has anyone seen a blank for the whole which would be left in the rear window? if so where and how much

I saw a blanking cap on a 944 on Rennlist yesterday. Looks like a normal rubber fluch cap you pick up from Halfords etc.
i won't remove mine as it lets in water, comes off the spidle and never use.

I'll search for a pic and post it here for you.
 
Isnt it the same size as a 20mm blind gromet? if so i can get hold of loads as i am an electrician and we use then all the time.
 
Come on guys keep up with your model evloution. Have a look at the back of a 968cs and notice the blanking plug in the rear hatch, as the 968cs doesn't have a rear wiper.

These are the part numbers:

477 845 331 one off washer
477 845 333 one off screw
477 955 439 two off grommet

999 707 301 40 One off "o" ring

011 118 14 one off nut
 
Ahhh, you got there before me Nutter - and as usual added more than I would by quoting part numbers...[:mad:]

I'm thinking of the same mod Marc, because the wiper is useless (let me clarify - the wiper works as intended, it just doesn't clear an area you can see through, before you all tell me how to fix the motor or something)

I know, I know, I know, we sit on the wrong side of the car for the designers to comprehend....[8|]

It may not be very effective but with the old bill now taking exception to people with partially obscured windows, I would think that any wiper is better than none, and it does help a bit. Who's brave enough to drill a hole on the opposite side? If you were to do that and rotate the motor 90 degrees, the arm would be set to park horizontally and wipe the arc the correct side. Just a thought.
