Condenser Replacement

I would get a second quote for comparison. It is critical that you use genuine seals IMO, but not critical you use genuine condensers. Pattern parts will halve the bill. It is worth considering replacing the receiver drier if the system has been inoperable for a while.

I did one myself on my 996. Front bumper off, clean out the muck, and replace, then had it regassed at Kwik-Fit. All in less than £150 with genuine parts from eBay and instructions on YouTube. You can get condensers equivalent to OEM parts for under £50 each and I hear they are very good too.

I also fitted a mesh to cover the front bumper gaps so the rads/condensers wouldn't rot again in future.

Not a very difficult job if your reasonably competent. (It's worth asking for a hand when removing the PU from the front of the car)

I've had the front PU off mine to fit grills so would replace them myself like Rodney & pay someone for the re-gas.

Make sure you've found where ALL of the screws are.

I agree about the bumper, it's pretty flexible so a bit of a PITA to put back on yourself, so it's worth getting someone to give you a hand with that.

Thanks chaps...just seen bumper removal, pretty simple....just bought some Zunsport grills so was going to take the bumper off anyway.

Im not too bad with a spanner so I'm going to give it a go myself...

Can anyone suggest the parts required, including O rings and drier etc plus where to get them from..please

Scott,

You could try Design 911UK for starters:

It would be best to get your system properly de-gassed before starting the job.

Good luck.

Jeff

OE Parts from Euro carparts. Do not buy the cheap copies they are a troublesome to fit as they are slightly different in size. Should be c £120 for condensor and two hours labour plus vat.

I used the Design 911 kit on my turbo and it has lasted 4 years and 25k miles so far and still look good. The original Behr ones lasted 6 years and 25k miles. If you are replacing them yourself, be careful with the condenser connecting bolts as they can be really tight. Replace the receiver dryer with a proper Behr-Hella item too as they only cost about £25.

As motorhead said get it degassed and vacced out first. It is a must. Put some pag oil on the new o rings and use a big adjustable to hold the condenser connection block whilst you torque up the M8 socket cap screws. I got pattern rads for £40 each and they look really good quality.

It is not a difficult job apart from the degassing and regassing which is a specialist job
