Condensor Grill Guards.

Ian Bloxsom

New member
My son has just bought a Carrera 4S, (lucky boy) and is the process of cleaning out all the crap
from the condensor matrix etc.
This question will, I'm sure have been asked before, who supplies the Grill Guards?

I seem to remember something in the 911 & Porsche World mag but have no chance of finding the information.

Thanks in anticipation.

Lucky boy indeed!

Some of the chaps on here have the Zunsport ones, but they are quite expensive. If you have the front PU off to clean the rads then pop down to Halfords and get a couple of sheets of Ripspeed Competition Mesh. Then follow Min's excellent DIY in the Technical Articles section.

I've done exactly this on my turbo over the last couple of days. Bit fiddly getting the shape right, and adhesive in place, but worth it in the end. Looks good too, and nice to get all the muck out of the rads.

Zunsport ones looked the business on the Carrera but are move involved from a fitting point of view for the C4S and turbo. Didn't think they looked as well either. Fitting your own gives a much better cosmetic result.

Hi Ian
I have just done this job on mine using silicon heat-proof grills - much easier to cut to size and a lot cheaper than the metal grills available in Halfords - if you are going to Beamish next Sunday you can have a look.

If your not DIY minded like me, I fitted the Zunsport grills to my Cayman S Sport in 2 mins flat my kinda DIY[:D]
More expensive than making them yourself and removing the bumper.
But worth the cost it in my case.[;)]

Cliff, I am tempted to go down the same route ... Do they clip onto the outside of the fins, rather than the neat looking DIY examples that are fixed from the inside but require removal of the PU.
Do you have any pics please?

On vents with no fins, it is just a matter of clipping them in (like on my 996 Carrera). On cars with fins like the C4s and turbo, you are supposed to remove the bumper to remove the fins or cut them out first to get a good cosmetic result.

Hi Mike,
On the Cayman they just clipped around the edge over slats with 1 small self tapper in the middle very flush and did not protrude over the bumper.
Cannot speak for other models and the fit, quality for the Cayman superb.
I have put a pic. Not sure if the grills can be seen as they are such a true flush fit
or indeed the pic has come out I have a great deal of trouble posting pics here
if it does not come out I can pm one over to you.
cheers
Cliff

Thanks Chris,
I have every intention of being at Bemish and so has my son. We will have a look at your handy work and take it from there.
I have no idea how someone can be so "in love" with a C4S when there are so many good 964's around. The mind boggles.

Some good advice on here to be pondering so I will see what route he wants to take.

Thanks to all who have contributed.

See you Sunday Ian. I've done the DIY grille mod on the Turbo, not as daunting as it seems and happy to talk you ( your son) through the process
