Some have even considered moving the filter into the front wing. I remain to be convinced as the real advantage of such.

On a stupidly modified car (like mine) the standard airbox is just so restrictive that the J pipe between the turbo and the airbox is under a huge vacuum and literally sucks oil out of the sump through the breather pipe that is situated there. When this was replaced by a cone filter and MAF the vacuum was reduced considerably and extra boost was immediately available due to less restriction.
In conclusion (see how I waffle [8|]) they are not always rubbish, but I would never fit one to a N/A car as it's just not worth the minor increase - if any.

There is a documented mod to the airbox by making 3 three holes/15 smaller ones claimed to improve flow and performance. Anyone tried this mod and what's the conclusion?
There was also a mod to drill a hole in the pick up pipe from the wheel arch. This was to stop the engine sucking in water if you drove through a flood.
Do put a cone on a n/a car. The sound is worth it. [
Drilling into an original airbox. mmm. Seemed fundamentally wrong to me. Maybe i treasure my original parts too much. Though i have a spare box with broken lugs n seized bolts i could experiment with to see what sort of noise it makes lol.

air. I am not exopecting a much in terms of power, but better breathing is always good. I have run a
K&N panel filter with drilled airbox on the 968 and it sounds better, but as for extra performance I am
unsure.
There was a stall at Ragley that had some cone filters for the 944's, they did not have much else on the
stall, a couple of strut braces and that was it, can anyone remember the name of the place as I have lost
the info I had on them, D'oh.
Thanks

Can't comment on who did the filters at Ragley but I would recommend going for a kit that has a loooooong intake length. I have the J pipe from Simon and it's perfect, any shorter and you will loose torque that you will feel (I experimented extensively with drain pipe first which is just the right diameter [
