Confession - I've been driving a 911 SC

I really love owning a Porsche

This evening I'm sitting in my lounge and hear the unmistakeable sound of a 911 idling outside [8D]. Looking out the window I see a 911 SC with the driver and his wife looking at our 944's on the drive. He spots me and waves then gets out of the car, it turns out to be a chap I've chatted with a few times as I washed my cars and he happened to be driving past in his old 944 Lux

Sadly the Lux was written off a few weeks ago [:(], and the SC is it's replacement, but his wife wants a 944 for herself so he drives round to mine to show her our 'twins'. What follows is a wonderful 30 minutes crawling over eachothers cars in the dark (and what felt like arctic temperature) and finishes with him pressing the keys in my hand for a drive round the block in his new baby [8D]. It sure was a beauty, silver in colour, 23 years old and with almost immaculate leather interior and of course that engine nore to die for :p I never got out of 2nd gear, but when I returned it was then my wifes turn to go out for a quick drive with his wife.

A totally surreal half hour with two near strangers and all because we both love Porsche.

Methinks if we both owned Mondeos he would not have stopped and let me have a go [:D]

Thats surely what Porsche ownership is all about - no snobbery just fellow enthusiasts enjoying the brand, always good in the dark - less paintwork blemishes can be spotted [;)]

We was evicted from our 'ole in road an' 'ad to go live in sceptic tank .......At 19 you are just so not going to know what the hell I'm on about.

Hmm, at 19 I had an RD80LC because my somewhat rusting and slightly battered 1.3 base model Escort (with Bilsteins and Twin Cam arches!) failed it's MoT when I was 18 because the strut tops were secured mainly by the bonnet.

When I was 18 I bought my first motor a Fiat Uno 45 s with Halford front spots and TURBO on the side ( it was a staggering 998 cc I think ) real rusty bag of nails but that feeling of driving it home for the first time was memorable.

I agree, its luxury. Has ABS and Disks all round, Electric and Heated Mirrors, Washer Jets and Front Windscreen (Which is a god-send in the winter), GPS Radar, Private Plate with my name on it etc etc [;)]

Its brilliant when i drive into college each morning

I want to take the Porsche but im not allowed that [:(]

Gasp! A student!!!! Owning a car!!!

When I were your age we were so poor if we were lucky we were allowed to stand by muddy puddle at side of road to let rich people drive past and splash us.

Luxury!

You poor old boys, when I was at Uni I was running this little beastie:
Oh she was fun and the ladies loved it!!

Ay. When I were 19 I had make do wit bike. And no, it didn't have an engine, unless you count my two legs.

Making up for it now, though.

Cup? We never used to have a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up newspaper.

My observation of the average age of 944 ownership in the States is a 20 year old[] Which I was slightly gobsmacked about[&:]
Poor Diver944 was only trying to share his 'surreal moment', now hi-jacked and turning slightly rice I feel[;)]

I don't know if this is surreal. This is a scene that somehow happens everyday on on-line forums such as this one here : making "verbal swaps" with strangers.

On a similar note a couple of mates and I are doing a 944/928 test-drive-swap day at the end of the month with chaps we have never met yet. I just hope it won't be raining [:)]

Maybe I could share a surreal moment with the owner of this[:D], which took up parking residence in my street a couple of months ago.

What a lovely story - I may be on my own but I see nothing wrong with people who've never met spending time discussing their passion - in this case Porsche!

[:)]

The best thing is that when you meet someone who is from a club with the same car, you could talk all night without stopping for breath without the girlfriend/partner or wife giving you an ear bashing for talking about it!!! [;)]

I don't know. Belinda accusses me of spending more time talking to Rick than I do her. She might be right, but then let's be honest, which would you rather talk about?:-

a) How many teddy bears the PTA members have washed

b) What options are available to achieve circa 400 bhp from 2.5 ltrs.

I rest my case.

An' you tell that t' kids of today and they'll never believe ya.

It's a bit like Mornington Crescent - There's them's that know, and there's them's that don't. [;)] [;)]

Its all been ontopic its just progressed from what was first posted... if it stayed the same nothing would get posted [&:]
