Confirmation of OPC advice

Having returned from a 280 mile round trip on A & B roads not motorways I noticed that the left exhaust tail pipe is slightly black with exhaust deposits as opposed to the right hand side that is grey. Grey being what I consider to be a normal colour. Both tail pipes were cleaned prior to the start of the day and therefore started from the same point. On checking with my local OPC if my engine required a retune I was told this is normal. i.e.The left cylinders always run slightly rich when compared to the right. Can anyone confirm this point and if so explain why this should be the case.
My car is a 996 C2, 3600cc with 35k on the clock. Registered in June 2002.
Many thanks

I would consider the normal colour of mine to be black on both sides. There isn't anything that an OPC can 'retune' to change the fuelling, either. All I can suggest is that you try resetting the DME by disconnecting the battery as outlined by Ian W here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=279182

It sounds to me like it might be a dodgy oxygen sensor, although this would normall trigger the Check Engine light. A diagnostic check to view the oxygen sensor outputs should show if there is a fault.

What the OPC said is crap! especially since the left exhaust pipe is from the RIGHT bank of cylinders.
