Connecting after-market speakers

Ok, the old bits of cardboard masquerading as speakers are out and the new speakers are ready to be fitted. How do I connect them? The new speakers have spade connectors whereas the outgoing speakers have the snap-on type connector. Is it the usual practice to cut these off and fit spade connectors or is there an adaptor available so that I don't have to butcher the original equipment?

All thoughts welcome!
