Connolising

Thinking about getting my interior tidied up. Side bolsters, gear stick, handbreak are starting to show their age...

Question is how long does the connolising last for before it needs to be re-done? And do you get stuck in a cycle of having to re-connolise every few years?

Finally (once and for all) does the connolising process "seal" the leather? Some seem to say that it permanently coats it meaning leather conditioners etc are of no use any more. Others suggest that it is pretty much the same process that the hides go through at the factory so makes no difference... What's actually correct?!

Thanks in advance
Mark

Forgot to say that my interior is grey so it shows up any imperfections beautifully!

And will probably get side bolsters replaced beforehand if I do get it re-connolised.

Hi,

I had a similar process carried out on my light grey seats about 2 years ago. I believe that the term "connolising" refers to a particular franchise but there are a number of companies that can recolour your seats. I was very pleased with the results on my seats. they were originally heavily marked iin the bolster areas. One they had been recoloured they looked almost like new. Now more than two years later they still look good. I use a leather cleaner and conditioner on them every few months.

I was advised by the company that carried out the work that the recolouring is never as durable as the original colouring process for the leather. However, at a fraction of the cost of a retrim, I would highly recommend it,

My understanding is that the process will enhance the look of the leather, but will not repair it.
For example wear on the seat bolsters....
