Continental Contact N2's

I just had some new Conti's fitted along with a full alignment and geometry set up (first full setup since the suspension has settled down)

The car drives a lot different now, feels more stable at speed and more predictable. I had way too much negative camber on the rear before (as my previous worn inside edges and the printout will testify).

Still, was interested to hear what others thought to the conti's vs pzeros? I like the fact they have the alloy protection as well, although look a little more like a donut compared to the Pzero N3's I had on before! I guess I will get used to that!

Initial impression are that they are pretty impressive in terms of grip and comfort.

Cheers,

Steve

Many find the contis wear quite quickly at the rears of 996s. They lasted a maximum of 5 k miles at the rear on the carrera even though the wheel alignment was spot on. However on the turbo, they are down to 3-4 mm at 7 k miles so it seems to be holding up better. I like the contis for the fact they are easily available and wet grip is good.

I have been fantastically impressed with my Continentals. My last set of rears did just under 10k miles including two track days and were only worn excessively on the inside edge due to too many motorway miles.

This compares to 1500miles (road driving only) for the P-zero rosso's on the back of my Z4mc. I have no direct comparison I'm afraid but the P-Zero's certainly didn't seem any harder wearing.

I've done 8k on mine..... & would'nt be surprised to get another 8k....

Perhaps I drive it too much like JB & not LH[:D] & that way I keep it 'dent free'..... Sorry Lewis!

Just priced some contis for rear quoted £250 each. Tyre depot can do Falkens for £129 same speed rating.
Any thoughts on these tyres.
Cheers Baz

I used blackcircles last time I ordered tyres, I did check recently as mine are a bit low and they seem quite reasonable around £160for 17" rears IIRC.

Thanks for the comments guys, mixed opinions on the life span - I was hoping for around 8k with normal driving. We will have to see, but after driving a little more on them the past couple of dats they feel very good.

Red, I'm not sure the Falkens will be N rated which Porsche require.

Ive got conti on the front of mine and while its not going to wear at quite the same rate, i have done 10,000ish miles since i bought the car and they werent at full tread when i started and theyre down to about 4-5 mm. I plan on putting contis on the rear to replace the pzeros when they hit 3mm either this month or next month.

In the UK we tend to be more diligent about sticking to N rating. If you look on the Renntech forum, the Americans use non-N rated tyres more and seem to get good mileage and no obvious adverse handling characteristics.

Just to add to the thoughts already given, I have just purchased a Carrera 2 3.6 cabriolet and needed to fit new tyres all round. I got these though Tesco (!) who I am pretty sure are linked to Blackcircles ad got the required tyres delivered to their nominated nearest fitter. I got 18 inch Contnental Contact Sports, N-rated, and fitted for about £750. Very good service and they kept me informed by e-mail about delivery and fitting dates. I will cerainly use them again - just Google Tesco Tyres and check out prices for your tyre sizes.

Wow was that £750 for all 4?! I think I paid £550 for two rears, that wouldn't have left much budget for the fronts! You must have got them at a very keen price!

I paid £715 all round for N2's 20 months ago so I would say that is a very competitive price.....

Very pleased with mine, ENJOY [:D]

Just had contis fitted all round with nitrogen fill for £660. Would recommend nitrogen fill, car runs quieter with nitrogen fill.

I had continentals all round at Kwik Fit and they filled with Nitrogen. Anyone know what the benefits are. Thought maybe something like not expanding in heat or something . Not sure if quieter as recently got the exhaust by-pass [;)]

I'd just like to confirm that from tonights driving, these tyres grip fantastic under load and at speed, very pleased indeed :)

Time will tell if and how well they last!
