Control arm to crossmember bushes

Gentlefolk,

I have some rather shot control arm to wishbone bushes. Amazingly the ball joints are good (in fact, the offside one still had a dab of red wax on the thread and nut, so I am assuming the original? 317k miles, not out!). Much is said about the ball joints, but I cannot see anything written about these bushes. I am hoping that is because they are straight-forward, but as far as I can see they are not standard spares from Porsche. It is for a road car, so I would rather stick to standard rubber than Polyurethane unless I have to.

Regards,

Tref.

Porsche does not supply bushes separately - they expect you to replace the control arm (as the ball joints are not "replaceable" without going to external sources). Elephant Racing (for one) supply rubber bushes in stock hardness for the 944. Here is a link.

IRRC Vertex also supplies both stock and "high performance" bushes which they use in their rebuilt control arms.

Control arm / wishbone same thing. Are you talking about the wishbone front bush which bolts through the front crossmember?

If so and if they are coco'ed then the bush will likely separate in your hands leaving only the outer steel shells of the bush which will be siezed into the alloy wishbone. Careful hacksawing and dremelling is needed to get the steel shells out without damaging the surrounding alloy.

I replaced my with Powerflex but I would assume new OE ones would be available from Porsche?

I purchased the Elephant racing ones when they arrived they were a standard Porsche part so should be available in the UK
Design 911 maybe[8|]

Tref I went through the same when I was preparing my car for the club championship as I had previously 'upgraded' to Delrin type bushes. I bought a set from these guys:

Not cheap but apart from new arms or rebuilt arms from Hartech I don't know of any UK local way of getting those bushes now.

BTW I couldn't tell any difference between new OEM bushes and delrin ones so IMHO the polyurethane ones are nowt more than a complete waste of money.

D911 have them, or did when I need them for my car. I went with Delrin bushes though, as Id had harder castor mounts fitted and the PU bushes were cheaper and less susceptible to oil contamination.
