Hello Guys

Bottom ball joint gone on 944T. I know I can go to Porscheshop etc and pay a fortune or get a repair kit from the US (too long to wait) but I remember reading about a place nr Glasgow that do a next day service for £125 - Gilmour Engineering I think but cant find any details.

Anyone used them?

Rich

Rich there are basically two places in the UK that provide refurbished control arms in exchange. Gilmour in Scotland as you already mentioned and Hartech http://www.hartech.org.uk/ in Bolton. There was an in depth article about both in 911 & Porsche World a few years ago but it didn't really come down on one side or the other. I have heard of a few people who have been very happy with the Hartech one and I also believe that's were Bert Gear get's his from.

You can fit the ball joint kits but the specialists have a machining process that re-establishes the cup shape at the bottom of the control arm socket that wears out of shape. Re-fitting the ball joint without machining this cup will result in accellarated wear. Hartec charge about 1.5hrs per arm plus parts.

I've just had my passenger one replaced at Promax, it took them a little over an hour to do that (they quoted 1.5hrs) & replace the front anti-roll bar bushes. All in it was about £500.

hth

eta the total cost included front tracking too of course.
