converting electric windows to manual.

How easy is this conversion ?
Does it reduce much weight ?
What's the availability of parts ?

I'll be grateful for any advice here as my driver's window sometimes works and sometimes doesn't so afraid to use it in case it stays down.

Very easy.
It doesnt weigh a deal less.
Not as good as it was for the manual winders as most poverty spec 924s have long since gone. Virtually impossible on the door cards. Not an issue if youre prepared to bodge your own.

my advice is fix the window ;p had intemittent fault on passenger side was just the switch needed cleaning.

if you're after weight reduction why not go the whole hog strip everything out and put in fixed plexi windows?

Don't want plexi windows and I have a pair of 968 Club Sport door cards with the hole for the manual winder.

The manual winder will fix into the existing holes and its the same part fitted to the first 924 and the last 968 Club Sport.

ISTR about 80 quid for a new manual mech, the few sh ones around sometimes advertised for silly money, like LH side ones for 40 quid (on a race car you would pin/crimp up the passenger side so most racers only need drivers side mech).

Depends what you mean by straightforward. I fiddled about with one of the S2's doors for an hour without doing very much, my brother then stripped out back to the frame both doors in about the same time. So very easy for a pro mechanic and not so for a duffer like me [:D]

Youll get it all out in a few minutes. Fitting the manual lifter, or re-fitting the electric one, may be a little more fiddley the first time.
