***Converting My Car, Help Please***

Hi there,
Many thanks for taking the time to read my question, I have a 965 Turbo (coupe) I have seen cars that have been converted (I.e a different body put on to similar car) for example, a 964 body put onto a 3.2 carrera car.
What I was thinking of is, purchasing a 964 Cabriolet Turbo body car and converting it so that I end up with a 965 Turbo Cabriolet, recently I saw an original conversion from new and it made mega money, I was thinking that I could end up with exactly what I want and If I were to sell it, possibly increase the cars Value substantialy,
What do you guys think?
Chris

I don't know about the individual car in question but generally conversions are worth less than original cars, done badly a lot less. If you want to convert a 911 into another model type do it because you like the idea not because you want to make money. You will probably be dissapointed if you want the latter.

I agree with Pete - converted cars are NEVER worth more than an original. The fact that there were no 964 Turbo cabriolets produced is guaranteed to make the car an oddball. Given the cost of building all of the turbo mechanicals into a cab body you would never recoup your expense. Also, given the rarity, the turbo bodied cab is likely to be worth close on the value of the turbo in the first place - so you'd be ruining two good cars into the bargain.

Regards

Dave

Hi Guys,
Thankyou for your comments, as an afterthought about the conversion, Porsche did make a 964 turbo cabriolet at a premium cost, hence the rarity and the fact that I saw one sell for 81,000 sterling, which is alot of money!
I do like mine because it is the 964 Turbo which as you know is reasonably rare but only worth half that, I suppose what I was thinking is that if I did the conversion ( I like the idea of a Turbo cabriolet), would I lose out financialy, it does appear so from your views. I do agree that it would seem a shame to take another car and use the parts.
Keep the comments going guys, I do appreciate it, Chris

I'm pretty sure that 9M had a 964 Turbo Cab in some time ago - fire damaged. According to Marc, they never caught on tho' due to lack of lateral rigidity, scuttle shake etc, etc.

Hi Graham,
It's ironic that you mention that, a friend today mentioned that I may have that problem!
