Seriuosly thinking of shifting one of my 944 turbos and venturing into 996 ownership, but keep hearing stories of rear oil seals and radiators going kaput, anything else to look for.
Probably looking at a 10 year old C2 manual.
Whar are the pitfalls apart from the obvious, damage history etc.
Anyone on here got a 10+ year car on classic insurance as it would not be a daily driver.
TIA Jim

Rads are a common problem, and quite a few cars suffer from RMS weeps. General concensus on the RMS is that you live with the odd drip until the clutch needs changing, when the RMS and Intermediate Shaft seals can be replaced cheaply. Take a look at this: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/legacy/clientftp/Register/996/tec_buyers_checklist.pdf . It gives a few things to look out for.

Can't help with insurance I'm afraid, as mine is a daily driver.

Hi James,
I beileve this is hosted in the members only area; if you are already a club members then worth getting your forum account linked up to your membership as there is a wealth of other info especially on 996s in the members only area.

See this FAQ post for details on linking your account: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=446453

The link is directly to the file, so you shouldn't need to have PCGB member status to download it. There is another link in this thread which you could try: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=269468
