Just been looking through AOL's list of 100 coolest cars and it was no.40 before a 911 appeared, a 1972 RS. Quite surprising considering some of the cobblers that came in the first 39 - an XKR came higher for chrissakes!! Mind you, the 300SL Gullwing at number 2..........mmmmm, ca't argue with that one much.
Anyway, made me think. When you're sat at traffic lights, which car makes you think "actually, that's pretty cool, I'd spend my own cash on one of those" when it pulls alongside you? For me, the only car that makes me genuinely think that every time is a 350Z. Great styling (a bit 911-ish in profile I always think), decent engine, good dynamics and top value. That doesn't mean to say that there aren't other cars that I would love to own e.g. an Enzo or Veyron, but lets put rare extotica to one side for now - I'm talking about cars you can see and viably use every day.
Please don't accuse me of hypocrisy re: my current M3 dilemma - that doesn't come in to the equation yet!
