Coolant Hose Disconnection

About a week ago as I was accelerating up through the gears in my GT3 when a warning message appeared on the dashboard telling me to pull over as soon as possible as all my coolant had gone. Sure enough the temperature reading was off the gauge and I stopped the car immediately, to be confronted with the sight of the rear of the car shrouded in smoke. I got out sharpish only to see all the coolant fluid in a puddle under the rear of the car. The car was recovered to a leading OPC who discovered that the hose-pipe had come adrift causing the sudden loss of the fluid in the reservoir. The car has been restored to its normal state and appears to be fine. My concern is what the possible long-term consequences for the engine might be and what I should look out for which might indicate a potential problem associated with this event in the future. The OPC assures me that they have checked the car for any more meaningful issues associated with the sudden and dramatic increase in engine temperature and have found none; I have no reason to doubt them. Any guidance from members would be appreciated and I would also like to know whether any other members have suffered similar problems. I should say that this issue does appear to be well documented by US owners of the 997 GT3.

Hi Ian,
I had the same thing happen to a 996 Turbo. I parked up, waited for it to cool down, refilled it with water, only to see it all come out again.... drove gingerly the 2 miles home and got it recovered to Porsche the next day. No long term damage, as like you I did not drive it a long way or for long without any coolant.

Its never happened to my 997 GT3, but I wouldn't panic if it did..... as long as you stop quickly.
A well known design fault with the Turbo and GT3 engines... It looks far worse than it seems.

Cheers

Charlie
