Coolant leak 944S2 Carb

I have an intermitten small coolant leak from the Cab but I can not trace where exactly it is coming from. The leak drips onto the plastic tray under the front of the engine but seems to be coming from slightly nearer the front of the engine as opposed to the sump side. (Is this making sense?). Anyway the leak does stop when the coolant level get to about 1cm below the minimum line on the reservoir box and even like this the engine temp never get above 50% on the guage. I have noticed however that the coolant fans do often stay on for about 15 secsonds when I switch off; again this does not happen all the time. If like tonight I notice the level is low, I then top it up and run the engine for a few mins within 10 mins the new water is dripping from the car. The drip stops however after about 5 mins leaving the level on the reservoir just above the min level.

So anyone with a past similar problem or some ideas as to where to start looking would be good. I am hoping to get the car on a ramp this weekend and take off the plastic underside to have a better look.

Apart from that - the car is great!!!

You appear to describe the normal behaviour of the vent hose in the expansion tank, although the level it settles out at should probably be above minimum [;)]

The cap on the expansion tank has a spring which allows coolant to escape above a certain pressure. If the cap is old it may be weak & allowing coolant to escape earlier. They cost about £8 & it's a service item, although I couldn't tell you the recommended replacement frequency.

If it's not that it could be a weakness in one of the hoses to the expansion tank.

I had a similar problem last month and it turned out to be a hoseclip had corroded and snapped on one of the pipes very cheap and easy to replace.
