Hi All, got a problem with a coolant leak. She keeps using coolant with no visual external leak. The car doesn't overheat, drives well, a small amount of white smoke on start up ( condensation probably ). I have changed the coolant cap to the 04 option from the original 00 option which I believe is prone to leak. Any ideas Guys ? Cheers Ian

Hi Ian, you could check under the rear trunk carpet for any sign of leakage; the coolant tanks on these cars are prone to split and leak with age.
If all is good and dry then don't worry and keep driving - sometimes they reject a bit of water when up to temperature if you top up to full. Mine did this so now I leave it just under the full mark.
The white smoke on startup is normal for all the flat sixes and is just a bit of oil getting burnt off.

Hi Russ, thanks for that. I've heard head gaskets going, cylinder heads cracking. But she isn't over heating, the oil looks fine and apart from the initial white smoke there's no problem here. Also the car drives well and pulls great.

Coolant expansion tanks are common, as already advised. We see leaks from piped into the engine, the water pump, the bleed valve and the rads at the front. It is worth getting a coolant pressure done at your nearest indie - as you can bet it will fail when you least want it to.
