Coolant leak

Into my first week's ownership of my TT and loving every second of it. Decided to check tyre pressures and fluid levels after the long drive back from Leipzig (close on to 1,000 miles), and the good news is very little oil has been consumed, but did find a puddle under the engine and what looked to be coolant dripping off of the underside of the engine guard. Checked again this morning, and the coolant level had dropped below the minimum level. 'Phoned Porsche Assistance who have said not to drive it and they will come and collect the car tomorrow on a low loader! Am hoping they can fix it tomorrow so I can be behind the wheel again on Wednesday.

It's probably just seeping out of a cooling hose connection and may just be a loose jubilee clip.

If this is the case, and the loss is minimal, you could probably still use the vehicle. Release the lid on the expansion chamber, (when cool), which may be tight if a vacuum has been created, and top it up. Then monitor whether there is any future loss until your OPC can check it out.

Of course, if it was air-cooled you wouldn't have this problem.

As it turns out, coolant tank is pretty much empty now, so I think I'll err on the side of caution and get them to check it out tomorrow. Anyway, thanks for your input.

It has been at the OPC in Colchester since Tuesday. They have found the problem; it was a loose banjo joint attached to a coolant pipe going into the right hand turbo. They had to use dye to see where the leak was coming from, but once identified have had to remove to engine to get the necessary access (sigh). They should have started putting everything back together yesterday and should have it finished Monday/Tuesday next week. Porsche Assistance were very efficient in providing a loan Mercedes, but I can't wait to get the Cayenne back. The whole thing has been incredibly frustrating.

Was in Colchester today, so popped into the OPC to see how they were getting on. Two bods were working on my car - vehicle body 8 foot in the air and engine/transmission at floor level on a type of rack. The engine is absolutely enormous - I saw them being married to the vehcile bodies in Leipzig, but didn't get anywhere near as close as I did today. They were just about to start loading the engine back into the body and I am hoping to collect it tomorrow evening. Feels like I'm getting a new car all over again! They OPC have handled it very well really, but it did take a call to the dealer principal before I got the attention I thought was worthy of the problem. As Helen has said elsewhere, you really shouldn't need to ask!

Got car back on 21 April (after 8 days at the OPC) and it's been wonderful ever since. Still getting used to the driving dynamics but enjoying every minute, albeit at a cost - spirited driving sees a huge smile on my face and the mpg in the high 16's to mid 17's, but if I drive more conservatively, I can hit 20-21, but that's so boring and not what I bought the car for, so am avergaing 17.8. I'm still gobsmacked at what a fantastic car this is!
