Coolant Level Keeps Dropping

Blythe

Hi Guys

I have noticed that my coolant level seems to drop quite quickly, I topped it up when I got the car (4 or 5 weeks ago) & then last week and I noticed last night that it needed topping up again.

Is this normal??

I am trying to use it at least once a week and have done approx 300 miles during this time.

The oil seems fine, there is some yellow gunk at the cap end but I have cleaned this and was advised that this is due to the pressurised crank case and fumes coming back up. The oil itself looks nice and clean.

Should I be concerned?

Thanks

Can you see any coolant on the floor?
Can you smell any while driving or getting in the car?
Does your engine heat up quicker or higher than before?

Do a search for 'coolant cap' - there was a revised cap with improved seal, you may have a car with the old cap or even a newer cap thats now failing. Another posibility is a split coolant header tank, not unknow after 5-6 years, but you'd be seeing coolant on the floor after a runout with the coolant up to temp.

I'm not seeing anything on the garage floor, although I have scheduled to be sealing the floor this weekend with a rubberised paint to help with such detection.

The temp has been sitting at approx 80 (just slightly over)

Have had similar problems with mine. Was difficult to see any coolant leak. Changed cap to a newer spec, but after shining a torch in behind the coolant tank i discovered a very small leak. No bigger than a pin prick. I believe it is an achiles heel with Porsche. Best of luck.

..........21,000 and still on the first tank and first RMS.

Hope I haven't spoken too soon! Fingers crossed!

Hi Have you checked the RADS it is a big problem they fill up with road grime and you can't see it then the rads start to leek but no coolant on the floor as it gets absorbed in the grime and sits on top of the plastics it is easy to take the front bumper plastic of and have a good look and clean them out
