Coolant loss- Oil Separater problems 1999 C4

My car is currently " sick" , after experiencing sudden loss of coolant, it was recovered to the dealer, who replaced the coolant expansion tank and reported some oil in the coolant. Upon further investigation the oil coolers where all gunged up and a clean up operation and replacement took place. However my car is still loosing coolant, I think either through the " head gasket" or possibly a porous crank casing ?

My question is ? has anybody else suffered such a failure and what was the final resolution?.

Charlie,

There was a lot of rumours in the City re rearly 996' s having pourous blocks in 1999/2000, I got a lot of stick from the City TVR boys.

I thought it was traced to a bad mould and all effected engines were recalled/replaced very quietly by Porsche. What year is your car?

Alternately it could be because the car has been driven to slowly!!!

Regards

Thanks Kevin, I knew you would understand ?? The Rennlist site does indicate an number of 1999 cars have experienced this problem, maybe mine is just another statistic. Its out of warrently but hopefully Porsche Cars GB will assist in the rather large expected bill ?

Charlie,

Seriously I think if your car is low mileage I' d really push on the goodwill claim issue, clearly this was a known issue on early cars.

I' d push every button, PCGB member, active on the forum, you' d thought they had changed all the effected engines, unresolved issues like this can really wreck residuals when they become known to the wider car buying community etc.etc.

Best of luck.

I picked up on your saga whilst looking for other people suffering similar problems. I have a 1998 C2 that has dumped its coolant into the oil due to cracked cylindar liners. It all started with oil being deposited in the expansion tank.

Did they ever trace the fault on your car and do you mind me asking if Porsche assisted with the repair?

Craig

Craig,

Sorry to say, my fault was a "cracked cylinder head", how it happened, without any warning lights I will never know, all I know, it cost me £5500 to repair, with no help from Porsche AG, despite writing personally to Andy Goss himself. My car was purchased outside of the Porsche network and they didn't care, because they had a "get out clause"

It was sold last year soon after the repair, coincidently through the OPC network with a full 12 months OPC warranty ??

If your car was purchased from an OPC, you may be in luck for a goodwill claim.

Give me a call offline (Assist RO Region 17) phone number in Porsche Post and I can discuss further

Charlie

Hi
Can I ask Charlie - did you get an OPC to do the work or consider a specialist and have you purchased another Porsche?
Regards
Grant

Grant,

I got the job done by the OPC, the potential offer of "goodwill" was a deciding factor.

I currently have a very nice 944 Turbo, but have a Boxster coupe on order for next year,

I haven't learnt from my mistakes
