Coolant Spec?

Hi Guys and Gals good afternoon to you all

Just a quick one, Im running short of coolant, I do however have a bottle of Audi G13 Coolant would I be ok to use this??

Nick,

The recommended coolant additive for Porsche vehicles is the OAT type - Organic Additive Technology (OAT). I’ve always used the Porsche recommended item for small top-ups, but as long as your Audi additive meets Porsche’s spec it should be OK, although using the recommended stuff would be advisable even though it’s expensive.

If it’s only a small amount I’d be inclined just to top-up with distilled water.

Just checked the garage ...

Porsche coolant - `with silicone` … no other information

G13 coolant - mix with distilled water only … no mention of Porsche application - same shape container as above

Comma Extreme GX40 - mix with de-ionised water - Porsche applications, from 2010... 911, Cayman, Boxster, Cayenne, Panamera … `do not mix with other additives`

Won`t bore you with the difference in shelf lives of items 2 & 3 :p

Still none the wiser [8|] ... all the same colour though :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for coming back to me, Im thinking of going the Adams Waterless Coolant way.......have you guys done this?

I haven't Nick, but it's an interesting alternative to the conventional water-based coolant. Quite expensive though, and I think you have to use a preparatory fluid to purge the system before adding the waterless coolant.

Hello Nick,

Waterless ... no, would only consider it for a competition car.

As regards system maintenance … I much preferred the BMW Alpina process for my ally blocked V8 [:)] [:D] . Complete coolant change every four years, meant that one inspected & tested it all regularly. On becoming a Porsche owner I was quite surprised that there was no such requirement.

Im very new to owning a Porsche and I think at times it shows, and yes like you say Andy some things are quite surprising, I'm astounded by things like the quality or lack of quality to certain parts on the car, that said the pain im going through with my Cayman at the moment will eventually stop and I can finally start to really enjoy the car, Im really learning along the way with the help of you guys which is fantastic I have to say, and I cant thank you all enough.

The car is being looked after at the moment by Paul at Zuffenhausen Wythall Solihull who has been very helpful.

I don't have any experience myself with Zuffenhausen, but I believe that they're a reputable Porsche Independent and will be able to give you both good and reliable advice.

Unfortunately - and as you're discovering - being a so-called premium make these days doesn't guarantee that the value engineering process hasn't crept into the the design and component sourcing process.
