Cooling fan problems

My turbo 4's got gremlins again. The fan which comes on at certain intervals to cool the engine down for when the car has been runing for a substantional amount of time, is staying on way to long and runing my batery down. Even worse, when I start the car up from cold, and then turn it off imediatly, the fan stays on for a long period of time.
What is the problem? Has a temperature sensor gone? or a thermostat? My guess is the car is cooling the engine down for as long as it takes when turned off, because it has no idea what the temperature is. does this ring a bell.
Please give me some ammo for the posche centres, I wana tell them what the problem is for once. Thankyou.

It could be resistor/stat that is located at left side of the fan housing(duct) 993 NA. If it is, its a fairly easy diy.

Not sure where it is on the 993 TT .

The OBD tester will tell them exactly what the problem is.

You dont mention which fan ..... The front condenser fan for air con and the oil cooler fan dont have a live feed when the ignition is off if I remember correctly (please correct me if I am wrong anyone), but the rear auxilliary blower fan does. On the turbo, you have two engine compartment fans. Potential problems could be the ballast resistor stuck, temp sensor malfunction or the relay.

This is an extract from the repair manual............

Note on test point 17/18
The 911 Turbo is fitted with 2 rear blowers. Fault codes 43 and 44 refer to the right-hana blower,
codes 46 and 47 refer to the left-hand blower. Since the same heater/ A/C regulator is fitted to the
911 Carrera, pins G 1 and G 19 are jumpered in the wiring harness of this model. For this reason, a
fault in the rear blower causes both fault codes, i.e. 43 and 46 or 44 and 47, to be displayed on the
911 Carrera.
