I'm not 100% sure if I have a problem, but here goes:
I have a '91 S2, no A/C, that has two radiator cooling fans. According to what I have read, the temperature switch has two switches. At 92oC pins 2 & 3 make and the fans run at slow speed, even with the ignition off. If the temp gets to 102oC, pins 1 & 3 make and the fans run at high speed, but only with the ignition on.
If I manually jumper the connections as described I can get slow speed with no ignition (2-3 jumpered) or high speed (1-3 jumpered and ignition on). So as described.
However:
With the switch connected, the following happens. When the engine gets hot the fans cut in at slow speed but if I switch off the ignition the fans stop immediately. I don't get this! Pins 2-3 must be closing as the temp increases to kick the fans in at slow but they stop if I turn off the ignition. If I manually jumper 2-3 with the ignition off, they start again. What I have described seems to fit a car with a/c with the a/c on, which causes the fans to run slow when the ignition is on too, but I don't have a/c.
Can anyone with an S2 describe their fan behaviour, i.e. do the fans run with the ignition off on a hot engine?
