cooling fan

alms

New member
My 05 C2S is due its first service very soon and one issue which gives concern is that of the cooling fan coming on at "odd" times. The OPC recons its normal for the fan to come on ,even when the temp. gauge is showing 40degrees. Being stuck in a bit of a jam at Oulton Park at the weekend the fan came on,ok I would expect that but not for it to keep running for another 2 hours of clear ,fairly legal, motorway driving. This never occured during my first year of ownership so it does not seem right to me.........any thoughts guys.

I can't say I've ever been aware of the fan operating while driving. I have heard it operate on a number of occassions when I'm outside the car, usually opening the garage door, and the car is idling but warm from a run.

The front one is involved with the aircon, usually runs constantly when the aircon is on...

I beleive the stock C2S has one rad and fan at the front and the X51 has 2 but could be wrong

I initially this fault, but it turned out to be a fan in the opposite wing had jammed. OP repaired this and then performed the dreaded s/ware upgrade, I now have a fan kicking in much more regularily and also my oil temp runs a lot higher than before. Porsche have confirmed by letter to me that they accept the higher oil temp as being within spec'!

Any idea when this software upgrade came in Paul ?

Hannu, mine was done about a year back, and one of our R17 members had it done just before our WOTY last year as well, and he experienced higher oil running temp and also the offside fan kicking in more often. I believe that the s/ware upgrade is done when you take your car in for a service visit, it is not a recall type of issue.

I am hearing that once this "update" has been applied owners are finding that the O/S fan is kicking in more often (never heard mine before) but also the N/S fans are found to be seized.

One wonders if the "update" is to get the fans running more often so they don't seize ? [&:]

The pessimist in me thinks that Porsche could have been paying out some large warranty claims due to the fans not kicking in when they should ! [;)]

I have looked up service campaign W731 on the net to find its an "urgent recall" in the U.S.
