Can anyone recommend an aircon specialist with 993 experience and/or the local independent with aircon expertise in Cornwall? Any leads gratefully received. thanks

Hi,
Not Cornwall, but Martin Reed's a good indy in North Devon - would be worth the journey up I suspect. 01271 375696.
Hope this helps. [;)]

Dorset any good, Cool it know 993 backwards great advice over the phone. tel 01305 889843. www. coolit-ac.co.uk No association just a happy customer.

If all you are after is a regas I'd thoroughly recommend a visit to KwikFit. £45 all in including evacuate, leak test and re-fill. Don't expect fancy diagnostics or anything like that but I doubt you'll get a regas anywhere else cheaper.

Thanks guys for the feedback. In the end I took her to Porsche Exeter, who gave me the bad news. Apparently a stone (or equivalent) had gone through the front grille and dented (and probably broke) a condenser coil on the left side (presumably leaking the gas), and I'll need to have the coil replaced. Then the interesting bit--the aircon isn't OEM, as my C4 probably didn't come with aircon as a factory-fitted option (I'll check the option codes tomorrow, but certainly sounds plausible). I'll try to find the manufacturer/fitter of the aftermarket system in the service records, to identify the right replacement coil. More generally, the Porsche/Oak Tree Garage consensus appears to be that the complexity of the 993 aircon system (i.e., parts in the front and back and pipes running between the two) means even a completely new system isn't going to be particularly effective, and may not warrant spending more money trying to get it right. Anybody have experience replacing coils, or installing a new (OEM?) aircon?

Hi front rad not to bad to replace,3 out of 10 just a bit fiddley. Check the pipes in the near side sill they corrode and are tight to unscrew, all in all its a good system to work on as long as you have time, and works very well when fixed, good luck.
